CORONATION STAMPS
ISLANDS ISSUE TO BE MADE
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 21. An issue of Coronation stamps for the Cook Islands, Niue, the Tokelau Islands, and Western Samoa was announced by the Postmaster-General (Mr W. J. Broadfoot) today. The values will be 2d and 6d, but in the case of the Tokelau group the 2d only will be issued.
The designs will be the same as for the New Zealand issue—the 2d portraying Her Majesty and the 6d Westminster Abbey. In a footnote to Mr Broadfoot’s announcement the Post and Telegraph Department says that the Tokelau issue will be unique among Commonwealth territories marking the Coronation of Her Majesty with a special Coronation stamp. To get the stamps to the islands of the group (Atafu. Nukunone, and Fakaofo) either of two methods will be used., The stamps may be flown in by flying-boat and oe transferred to outrigger canoes or they will be taken by launch from Apia and landed by canoe at each island.
