TELEVISION STATION AT AUCKLAND

ESTABLISHMENT TO BE CONSIDERED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 8. The possibility of an experimental television station being established in Auckland without Government aid will be investigated by the New Zealand Radio, Television, and Electrical Traders’ Association. The Minister in charge of Broadcasting (Mr R. M. Algie) has told the association that the Government will not consider at this stage the question of whether experimental television stations should be established with Government financial aid. He expressed his appreciation of the “practical and progressive spirit which has prompted your association’s consideration of this matter.”

The association has decided on no set plan, but if its president (Mr C. R. People) has his way it will provide a definite lead in experimental television in New Zealand. Today he said that under the Post and Telegraph Act a licence for experimental work could be granted.
