ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION
ARRANGEMENTS FOR FIRST SHOW OF SEASON
Arrangements for the first Canterbury show of the new season, to be held on October 18 by the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association, were completed at a meeting of the general committee of the association. The president (Mr D. M. Mackay) acknowledged assistance given by members in supplying labour and motor trucks to carry out improvements at the Show Grounds. The work would be completed this week, he said. Mr J. C. Chamberlain commented upon the deletion of certain classes in the Shorthorn cattle section, which complicated the awarding of a challenge shield. In reply, Mr H. D. Hurford, for the cattle committee, said that alterations had been made to bring the Shorthorns into line with the other breeds of cattle. The shield would definitely be awarded to a yearling bull, as intended by the donor. Members who had been canvassing the district for stock, produce, and cash donations for the association’s debenture liquidation fund reported substantial progress. It was hoped to complete the canvass before show day. Thirteen new members were elected and congratulations were extended to the Ellesmere Young Farmers’ Club on the selection, after a recent debating contest, of one of its members, Mr J. Sunckell, for an Australian tour.
