REDCLIFFS RIFLE RANGE
POSSIBLE USE FOR HOUSING A proposal that the Redcliffs rifle range should be used for housing has been made to the City Council by the Redcliffs Burgesses’ Association, but the housing committee is not willing to act until more is known about the Army’s release of the property. The association wrote to the council ‘that the Army Department had agreed to release all but nine acres of the Redcliffs rifle range, and asked if the council would consider purchasing some of the land for housing. The housing committee said it understood that the sale of this land was raised in the House of Representatives by Mr H. R. Dake, M.P. for Lyttelton and was under consideration by the Army Department. The Lands Office whiep would deal with its disposal, had not yet been advised wnat action was to be taken. Cr. T. H. McCombs suggested that some provision should be made for recreation, and Cr. C. Baldwin, chairman of the council’s housing commits tee, replied that the committee would consider this.
