GOVERNOR’S BAY-DIAMOND HARBOUR ROAD

Sir, —I believe the road from Governor’s Bay to Diamond Harbour is to be tar-sealed m stages, starting from .Diamond Harbour. Why that end, when to seal the Governor’s Bay end would benefit Governor’s Bay and Teddington as well? Perhaps it is so that dust will not trouble Christchurch people who have been building their pleasant .week-end homes from Charteris Bay to Diamond Harbour. Meanwhile the Governor’s Bay school children struggle along to school with a choice of walking on a gorse-covered bank on one side, a steep drop on the other side, and three banks of shingle and two cleanswept wheel tracks in the middle. One can imagine which a child would want to choose and what must be the result sooner or later.—Yours, etc., HAYSEED. Governor’s Bay, February 19, 1952. [When this letter was referred to the secretary of thp Mount Herbert County Council (Mr G. T. Bullock) he said that if the writer would call at the branch office in Hereford street he would be supplied with the necessary information.]
