REARMAMENT
Sir, —Day after day we are pumped full of propaganda through radio and press. When people in Germany or Japan rise up and protest against being forced to rearm by the “peace loving nations,” they are neatly labelled “Communist." But our people ought to be told the truth. Why can we not be told just as often that this opposition in Germany is backed by such great Christian leaders as Martin Niemoller? When his devotion to the Lord Christ caused him to oppose Hitler. he was a hero in our newspapers. Now that that same devotion causes him to oppose Truman and Churchill, news of him is quietly suppressed. To a German mother, frantic with fear at the increasing danger, he recently wrote, “If German rearmament should come, my three sons will certainly refuse military service and take the consequences, and I can only advise your son to do the same.”—Yours, etc., DAVID M. TAYLOR. March 3, 1952
