MANAWATU CLUB’S TROPHY EVENTS (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 2. The biggest crowd seen at a motor sport* meeting in the North Island went to Ohakea for the Manawatu Car Club’s annual series of trophy races on Saturday. According to estimates made by the Air Force and the Transport Department, there were between 22,500 and 25.000 people present: In the main event," th* 70-mile Ohakea Trophy Handicap Race, the car with the smallest engine capacity, a 498 c.c. Cooper, driven by A. Stafford (Uppe- Hutt), won narrowly fiwn F. Shuter (Christchurch), who drove a 3920 c.c. J.| Allard. Third glace went to G, C. Smith (Auckland). T.‘Sulman (Sydney), driving a 1496 c.c. Maserati, was fourth. Smith, who raced from scratch, returned fastest time to take the New Zealand Grand Prix Trophy. His time was 58min Issec. Sulman was second. Imin 15sec later, and Shuter was third. The gross time returned by Stafford in the handicap section was 70min '2Bsec.
