DIAMOND WEDDING

1 REV. J. TENNENT AND ; MRS TENNENT The Rev, James Tennent and Mrs Tennent, 16 Squire street. St. Albans, ! will celebrate their diamond wedding to-day. They were married in Scotland, and lived for a few years in mining districts near Glasgow. In 1904 Mr Tennent entered the work of the Presbyterian Church in Cardenden, Fife, and six years later went to Glasgow to work as a city missioner in the slum area. Mr Tennent came to New Zealand in 1912, in response .to an appeal for men to do church extension work, and settled in New Brighton. He ministered in Linwood, Shirley-Richmond, St. Albans, and Styx, and in 1929 moved to Morven, his first charge in North Canterbury outside the Christchurch Presbytery. In each charge his ministry was most successful; no than three Sunday schools and two churches were built. Although he retired from the ministry in 1935 he supplied Hornby until 1939. In 1940 he began a chaplaincy at the Christchurch Public Hospital, the Sunnyside Mental Hospital, and the Paparua Prison. He was ably supported in all his work by Mrs Tennent, and his family. Mr Tennent is now senior minister in the Christchurch presbytery, and still takes occasional services. Mr and Mrs Tennent have two sons, Mr W. Tennent. who is on the staff of the New Zealand High Commissioner’s Office, London, and Mr J. L. Tennent, Tauranga. Mrs W. J. Turner, Fendalton, and Mrs F. Margetts, St. Albans, are daughters. Their other daughter was Mrs A. A. Bruce, who lived in St. Albans.
