WELLINGTON GIRL TO STUDY IN PARIS
Miss Valerie Simpson, of Petone, will leave later this year for Paris to study singing under Ninon Vallin. Miss Simpson has had three years of study in Australia where she has been working as a typist in addition to attending lectures at the Conservatorium and lessons In languages with Sydney teachers. While in Sydney Miss Simpson has been successful in, several radio quest competitions and has had considerable experience in theatre work. She took part in “Felias and Melisande,” and was Eva in “The Mastersingers,” both produced by, Eugene Goossens. She also took part in “The Gypsy Baron.” In the annual Sydney Eisteddfod last September, she won four awards, the gold cup for the best lyric soprano (Melba Memorial), the Horace Keats Cup, came first in the two Gilbert and Sullivan opera sections, and won four second places. This year she is competing only in the Sun Aria contest.
Before leaving for Australia to study, Miss Simpson Was a Wellington finalist in the “Miss New Zealand” Quest.
