MAIREHAU NOVICE WHEELMEN The senior and junior championships of the Mairehau Novice Wheelmen were held on Saturday morning under ideal conditions. A large crowd saw some good racing. The trophies were presented by Mr L Laycock, of Timaru, who founded the club in 1948. Results were:— Senior Championship, 10 miles.—B. Eden (2imin), 28min 13 2-ssec, 1; B. Dawe (2jmin), 28min 13 3-ssec, 2. Handicap section: T. Mahon (4min), 29min 23 2-ssec, 1; B. Martel (4min), 29min 32sec, 2; B. Eden (2imin), 28min 13 2-ssec, 3. Junior Championship, two miles and a half (time trial).—D. Lyes (scr), 7min 34 2-ssec, 1; R. Price (scr), 7min 39 2-ssec, 2. Handicap section: T. Rondel (Imin), Bmin 33sec, 1; D. Lyes (scr), 7min 34 2-ssec, 2; R. Price (scr), 7min 39 2-ssec, 3. The Evans Cup.—Special junior prize: T Rondel. Special senior prize: B. Martel. Lap record shield: R. Bush. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB There werq, more than 40 entries for the 60-mile road race held by the Christ-' church Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon. The race was run from Halswell out through Southbridge and back. R. Ayers left the other scratch men, P. Doyle and B. Woodgate, to gain fastest time. Heavy shingle troubled most of the riders.
