GORE INVERCARGILL RACE
LOCK WINS FROM SCRATCH (New Zealand Press Association) INVERVARGILL, September 2. Riding from scratch, the New Zealand track champion, L P. Lock, won the annual Gore-Invercargill cycling road race of 40 miles on Saturday.' This is the first time a scratch rider has won. The riders faced a strong head wind all the way, and there were several showers of rain.
Lock’s winning time was the third slowest in the history of the race. There was a close finish, the first six riders crossing the line in a bunch covering about 10 yards. J. Ritchie (Christchurch) was second, and R. O’Conner (Invercargill) third.
