AIR LIFT FROM DARWIN

K FORCE TROOPS IN JAPAN [N.Z. Army Information Service] KURE, August 30. The air-lift organised by the New Zealand Government to bring the stranded K Force troops from Darwin to the Korean theatre after the wreck of the Wahine is in full swing. Five specially chartered aircraft, carrying a total of 232 men. have already arrived at Iwakuni airfield, and another 25 men have been’ carried north aboard Qantas aircraft making scheduled flights through Darwin to Japan. Another two special aircraft with about 90 passengers are due at Iwakuni late to-day. The 600 odd troops comprise mainly members of the new transport company and signallers for divisional formations. A canvas camp has mushroomed within /the K Force base at Hiro Japan, to accommodate the men while they are in transit The signallers among the new arrivals are to undergo their corps training at Hiro before joining the division. Thev will live at Hiro in squad tents and marquees. As soon as each successive draft arrives at Hiro, the men are being issued with the green summer jungle clothing worn by British troops in the Korean theatre.
