APPEAL FOR THE BLIND

DOMINION TOTAL OF . £277,487 -

(New Zealand Press Association) „ AUCKLAND, August 31. New Zealanders had now given £277,487 to the appeal for the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, said the chairman of the Dominion appeal committee (Mr John Seabrook) today.

There are grounds for confidence that the £300,000 target will be reached, although a few districts have not filled their quotes,” he said. Many South Island committees and quite a number of North 'lsland committees are still working toward their targets. “No final statement of the result of the appeal will be available for some time after the committees send in their final returns, and the Dominion committee asks them for their help in bringing the appeal to an early and successful conclusion. “A feature of the appeal has been the magnificent response from all sections of the community. The blind people of New Zealand are most grateful for the demonstration of practical sympathy by the public," concluded Mr Seabrook.
