SECRET POLICE IN AFRICA

USE IN SUPPRESSING COMMUNISM

(Rec. 9 pjm.) LONDON, August 31. South Africa is forming a sceret police force, the main job of which will be to suppress Communism, says the Johannesburg correspondent of the “Daily Express.” Special branch headquarters have been established in Pretoria and there are six other offices.

The correspondent says there are fears that the Government may use the secret police against persons opposing the present regime. This fear is backed by the appearance of armed police shorthand writers at a recent meeting of supporters of the War Veterans' anti-Govemment “Torch Commando” group.
