MOSLEM’S APPEAL DISMISSED

MARRIAGE TO DUTCH GIRL INVALID

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) SINGAPORE, August 30. Three judges of the Singapore Court of Appeal to-day unanimously dismissed an appeal by Inche Mansoor Adabi, a 23-year-old Malayan school teacher, against a Supreme Court decision in December last which decla- ed invalid his Moslem marriage* with Bertha Hertogh who, when her parents were imprisoned by the Japanese in 1942. was brought up by a Malayan foster mother. The Court then awarded the custody of the girl to her Dutch parents. Bertha, since 1942, had been brought up by a foster mother and she married Adabi according to Moslem rites. She is now 14 years of age. , Bertha and Mansoor lived in Singapore until December last when the High Court judgment declared their marriage invalid. Bertha was returned to her parents and was flown to Holland, where she is now being brought up as a Roman Catholic.
