LONDON, August 28. British men and women spend £120,000,000 a year on thg necessities of persona", appearance, from razor blades to permanent waves. Women account for £90,000.000 of the total bill. A Government report giving these figures was published after a twomonths’ survey in 1949, during which 2916 people were interviewedThe report reveals that women spend an average of 5s 2Jd a month on cosmetics—four times as much aS men spend on hair eream, brilliantine, and razor blades. Girls spend an average of 8s a month on cosmetics.
