COMMUNISTS IN HAWAII
ARREST OF SEVEN LEADERS
WASHINGTON. August 28. The Federal Bureau of Investigation to-day extended its Communist drive to Hawaii and arrested seven alleged party leaders in the islands. The Attorney-General (Mr J. Howard McGrath) and the Director of the F. 8.1. (Mr J. Edgar Hoover) said in a joint statement that those arrested included Jack Wayne Hall, aged 36, described as the representative in Hawaii of the West Coast Longshoremen’s leader, Mr Harry Bridges. The others arrested are members of the executive board of the Communist Party in Hawaii. Al! seven were charged with conspiring to advocate the violent overthrow of the United States Government.-
Mr McGrath said he regarded the arrests as "extremely important because of the strategic importance of the Hawaiian Islands in our fight against Communism in the Pacific.”
