HEALTH OF THE KING
Cancellation of N.Z. Tour Suggested LONDON, August 27. Lieutenant-Colonel M. Lipton, Labour M.P. for Brixton, South London, speaking in his constituency to-night, said that the King should not be expected to visit Australia and New Zealand next year because of the strain on 'his health. “The death-rate qf members of Parliament is higher than that of any other section of the population,” he said. “Nine members of Parliament have died during the present •Parliament. In addition, many have been ill for varying periods, including the Prime Minister (Mr Attlee) and other members of the Cabinet “The public dp not always realise what heavy demands are made upon the physical and mental endurance of people in public life. I do not think, for example, that the King should be expected to undertake the arduous task of visiting Australia and New Zealand next year. “Those who have the responsibility of advising on this matter should think twice about it. I am sure that the people of the Dominions would understand if, for health reasons, some alterations were made in the arrangements at present proposed.”
