LAWN TENNIS U.S. SINGLES TITLE
NO SURPRISES IN EARLY ROUNDS

The prominent American and Australian players had easy wins in the United States national singles championship at Forest Hills to-day. All the United States’ seeded, players came through the second round, most of them with very easy wins. The Australian Frank Sedgman, seeded top of the foreign entrants, showed splendid form in the second round match against Gilbert Bogley, United States junior champion in 1948 end 1949. Principal results were: — First Round.—Tony Mottram (Britain) beat Stanley Rumbough, 6-4. 6-3. 6-4; Mervyn Rose beat Philippe Neff, 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. Second Round.—Don Candy beat August Banzemuller, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2; Herb Flam beat Ricardo Balbiers, (Chile). 6-0, 6-3, 6-2; Sedgman beat Bogley, 6-0, 6-4, 6-2; Gardnar Mulloy beat Henry Batsford, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; Budge Patty beat Tony Vincent, 6-0. 6-2, 6-3; Tony Trabert beat Gilbert Mateer, 6-2. 6-2. 6-0; Victor Seixas beat Charles Devoe, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. 6-4; Art Larsen beat Garner Anthony. 6-2, 6-0, 6-4; Earl Cochell beat Enrique Buse (Peru), 6-4. 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; Edward Moylan beat Paul Remy (France). 3-6, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3; Hamilton Richardson beat Larry Hebner, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
