Wool-Selling Season Opens In Sydney
(N.Z. Pritt Attdeiation-Copyfight) (Rec. 12.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 27. All MeHtio descriptions declined by 5 to 10 per cent, and comebacks and crossbreds by 10 to 15 per cent., compared with the June closing rates, at the opening of the Sydney woolselling season to-dtiy. The sales opened in an atmosphere of intense excitement. The Wool Exchange Was crowded with buyers representing world-wide interests, woolgrowers, and members of the public. The first bid was awaited with anxiety, but this was (thickly dispelled when the staccato shouts of the buyers snowed that market strength and competition were good. The Continent was chief buyer, but good support also tame from Britain, Japan, and local mills. The selection, as is usual at this period, did not include superfine wools. The offering totalled 15,0()0 bales, of which 14,495 were sold. Top price was 13&d for eight bales of greasy Merino.
