BRITISH PRESS COMMENT
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, August 27. The “Daily Telegraph” in a leading article to-day said the real reason for India'S refusal to sign the proposed Japanese Peace Treaty was that she wished to stand forth independently as the leader of thq Asian nations. India, instead of keeping in step with the Commonwealth had tried to follow a middle road of her own. She tried to avoid siding with th* Western democracies or with the Communist Powers. Her proposal to sigh 4 separate treaty with Japan wou'd not add to India's prestige as an Asian Power. “The Times” said that India's action had caused disappointment in London and resentment in Washington.
