GAS SUPPLIES IN CHRISTCHURCH
BETTER COAL BEING RECEIVED
The Mines Department has advised the Christchurch Gas Company that further supplies of coal are on the way to the gasworks. Better quality coal is available now from the Stockton and Denniston mines. “The gas stocks may enable an extension of supply hours for to-morrow (Thursday) without interfering with the scheduled hours for Friday, provided the coal under consignment fulfils expectations,” said the secretary of the company (Mr G. Irvine) yesterday. “Gas supply hours for to-morrow will therefore be from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-30 p.m. to 7 p.m.,’’ he said.
Should the coal received to-day not be of the expected quality a revision of hours for to-morrow might be forced upon the company. Mr Irvine added. Notice of any revision would be given.
