INVESTMENTS EXCEED £17,000,000 £34,500 IN OFF-COURSE BETTING Totalisator investments at 161 galloping meetings covering 246 days during the 1950-1951 season, which will end on July 31, amount to £17,705,560. At 157 meetings covering 239 days last season, investments totalled £17,738,522 10s, including £420,467 10s on trotting events at those meetings. Figures for 20 days’ racing will have to be added before the figures of the present season are complete. On-course investments on galloping events this season total £17,429.707, including £1.909.868 in doubles betting. The amount for trotting events at galloping meetings is £241,308 10s. Off-course betting has amounted to £34.544 10s, including £12,195 on the doubles.

In 29 days’ racing in the Canterbury metropolitan district, on-course investments on galloping races have amounted to £1,601.915, including £148,575 10s on the doubles. In 10 days’ racing conducted by the Canterbury Jockey Club, investments amounted to £1.246.051 10s. including £113,379 in doubles betting. Last season, also in 10 day£ racing. investments at the Canterbury JcCkey Club’s meetings totalled £1,179,563 10s.

During the period covered by the figure! for this season, on-course investments for 40 days' racing in the Auckland metropolitan district total £5.623.818. including £711,412 10s in doubles betting. Of that total, oncourse totalisator investments at six meetings (15 days) conducted by the Auckland Racing Club account for £3216.270 10s. including £409,450 10s in doubles bett’ng. This is the highest total for any club in New Zealand. Stakes for galloping races during the period reviewed total £1.065.094 15s, trophies being worth another £6408 15b. At the 157 meetings last year, the galloping races carried stakes worth £979,017, and trophies were worth £5957.
