TEMUKA MORE THAN 1000 VEHICLES REGISTERED

The number of motor-vehicles registered at the Temuka Post Office in June exceeded 1000 for the first time in the history of the district. Registrations up to the end of the month totalled 1096. compared with 991 at the same date last year. The final total would be about 1500, said the acting-postmaster (Mr J. A. Burgess). Up to the end of June 378 drivers’ licences had been issued by the Temuka Borough Council office, said the Town Clerk (Mr J. I. Clark). This represented an increase on last year's figures. Fifteen members met. at the home of Mrs W. F. Evans for the monthly meeting of the Temuka Garden Circle. Mrs W. Corbett, who gave the talk in the golden thread series, took as her subject Dr. Leonard Cockayne, the eminent botanist, who achieved world fame for his botanical studies of New Zealand plants. The competition for the month, a a small arrangement of succulents, judged by popular vote, resulted: Miss Ferguson 1, Mrs Clark 2. Mrs Brookland 3.
