SILVER BAND HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

A sound financial position was shown in the financial report presented to the annual meeting of. the .AsbUnton Silver Band last evening. It was decided to inscribe the following names of life members on the honours board: Messrs G. Bowman, T. A. Bryant, G. Whiting, E. A. Harwood, C. Frew, and H. Addis (Christchurch), and Mrs N. Chapman. Officers elected were: patron. Mr R. G. Gerard, M.P.; president, Mr E. C. Bathurst; vice-presidents, Messrs Bryant, Bowman and C H. F. Maynard; bandmaster, Mr A. Bright; sergeant, Mr E. Ingram; corporal Mr A. McQuatters; lance corporal, Mr E. N. Flaherty; librarians, Messrs E. M. Flaherty and N. Whiting; custodian, Mr E. M. Flaherty; committee, Messrs C. Jackson, R. Whiting J. Davidson; auditor, Mr C. Campbell. "We have got to work harder individually as well as collectively if we want to hold our high position,” said the conductor (Mr R. M. Milligan). Once bandsmen used to have section practices before a contest at 6 a.m. at the Ashburton riverbed, but nowadays bandsmen seem inclined to rehearse twice a week and leave it at that.
