MAGISTRATE’S COURT

BREACH OF PRICE ORDER Charged with committing a breach of a price order, C. M. Asher. Ltd., was fined £1 by the Magistrate (Mr E. A. Lee) in the Magistrate’s Court at Waimate. The charge related to the sale of a motor tyre. For the prosecution Mr Frapwell said an inspection by an officer of the Price Control Division had revealed a cash docket dated January 10 for the sale of a tyre at £7 7s. The particular price order required that goods purchased and paid for by the 20th of the month after the purchase should be allowed a discount of 2s 6d. Evidence relating to an inspection made on April 11 was given by G. M. Brunsden. Mr N. L. Knell submitted that the evidence of the docket did not prove that no discount had been given. The purchaser of the tyre had had a punctured tube repaired, for which the charge was 2b 6d. No charge had been made and this was considered to be the discount of 2s fid called for. Evidence was given by C. M. Asher and J. G. Asher. Traffic Offences On a charge of riding a cycle at night without a light Colin Hawkins was fined £l. James Robert Bartlett was fined £2 for operating a heavy motor vehicle at a speed in excess of 30 miles an hour.
