MINOR EVENTS AT METHVEN
SYLVETTE’S IMPRESSIVE WIN Sylvette was driven perfectly by P. P. Gallagher at the Methven Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday, and she won tne Lyndhurst Trot Handicap No. 1 with something in hand. The Quite Sure mare loilowed Beau Scott and Native Dictator into the straight, at which stage Captain Hardy, Templar, and Indomitable headed the others. Sylvette was not asked for an effort until inside the furlong, and she soon settled the issue. She has now won twice at her three most recent appearances. As she is oniy a four-year-old, she has been improving with every race, and she promises to develop good winning :orni. Beau Scott ran a useful race and appealed to have the race won inside the rurlong, but he could not withstand Sylvette's challenge. Beau Scott took over the running from Native Dictator, which had been about 12 lengths clear in tne eariy running, turning into the straight. Native Dictator held on for third, half a length clear of Captain Hardy, with gaps to Templar and Sir Charles. WeJ-backed candidates in Correction, Lady Brigade, and Super Note broke during the running and were never sighted. Indomitable, which was having his first race after a spell, ran a fair race while his condition lasted, and he may not be long in showing form. Easy Win for Raceaway
Having her first start for six months, Raceaway made short work of the opposition in the Highbank Handicap No. 1. She broke soon after the start, and with a mile and a quarter to run she was giving the leaders about 60 yards. She made up a lot of ground going out of the straight, although she was racing wide out. At the straight entrance sue was alongside Supreme Command and just behind the pacemakers, Prominence and Costerville, with Geld Relic, Vraiment, and Defendant showing up. Raceaway was not extended at any stage of the run home, ani she had three lengths to spare over Defendant, which came home well after losing her position in the early running. Supreme Command was a disappointing third. He pulled very hard throughout, and until he overcomes this habit he will never do well. Little Slam finished on tor fourth a neck away, ahead of Gild Relic, Prominence, and Gilt. Costerville faded right out in the straight. Keen Finish
Rewa Scott, which was having only her second start from A. Holmes's establishment, gradually made up her handicap in the Lyndhurst Trot Handicap No. 2. and the was handy to Knocknagree, Canny Scott, Gliding Wrack, Dainty Joe (in a break), and Black Sent.nel at the straight entrance. She challenged Gliding Wrack inside the iurlong, and after a ke.n struggle she finished slightly the better to win by a length. Rewa Scott was well handled by C. King. She should soon win again. Gliding Wrack had every chance, and he might have been harder to beat if he had not had to cover extra ground. Black Sentinel finished right up third, half a length clear of Canny Scott, with a gap to Elaborator. Morning Mist, Scottie’s Double, and Knocknagree. Black Sentinel broke short of the line and passed the post at a gallop. An inquiry was held, the third and fourth placings being reversed.
