GRANTS FOR CHURCH SCHOOLS
OPPOSITION BY BAPTISTS IN AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 15. Auckland Baptist Churches to-day called on their members and adherents to oppose any grants from public funds to denominational schools. In a statement read from pulpits, the executive of the Auckland auxiliary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand pointed out that the Roman Catholic Church had claimed an annual subsidy of £1,000,000 from public funds for the support of Catholic schools. The statement said that members should use all proper and legitimate ways open to them as citizens to oppose the introduction of “such a retrogade and disastrous policy.”
