UNITED NATIONS’ AIMS
Dr. Evatt Calls For Restatement
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 13. Dr. H. V. Evatt, a former President of the United Nations General Assembly, said to-day that General MacArthur’s dismissal called for an immediate restatement of the United Nations’ policy on Korea. He said that General MacArthur’s proposals for the conduct of the Korean war were quite contrary to the United Nations Charter. General MacArthur apparently favoured occupying the whole of Korea up to the Manchurian border, and making bombing attacks against China, thus inviting and even provoking an immediate third world war. The United Nations’ decisions limited action to throwing the North Koreans back to their own border and securing the frontier at the 38th parallel, Dr. Evatt added.
