STATE AID FOR RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS
Sir,—“Hoping" appears to have the facts twisted. His attempt to parallel the case for financial aid to religious schools, with the Government railways service is ridiculous. If he prefers to travel by car he may rightly do so, but on top of the running costs for his car, he was required to pay the rail fare to his destination, then he would be in the position of parents who send their children to religious schools. In other words, he would be paying twice. I agree with and admire the Catholics and other religions who ask for such State aid for the maintenance of schools that teach Christian precept! and prepare future citizens to serve God, man and country. Their claim is just, so let us in turn dispense justice.—Yours, etc, L.B.M. April 13, 1951.
