FLOODING AT SEFTON

Sir,—lt was announced on Saturday that the Rivers Control Council is to visit Canterbury this month. While here could the council inspect and report on the causes and suggest a remedy for the floodings that have occured here for so many years? The Catchment Board has done a good job on the flats below the township, but this has done little to remove the causes of flooding in the township itself. I suggest that co-operation between the council and the Railways Department might also help to this end. The long delayed sealing of the road between Rangiora and Amberley would also be much appreciated by those using this road, and perhaps help to restore Sefton from a near “ghost town” to something of its former popularity and prosperity.—Yours, etc., SEFTON RESIDENT.
