SUCCESS NOT POPULAR WITH CROWD

After the running of the Novice Handicap a protect was lodged against the winner, Lady Wanaka, for alleged interference to the runner-up, Sivite, which in turn appeared to check Teal. After hearing the evidence it was decided that the judge’s placings be allowed to stand. Jamell, winner of the March Handicap, was given a mixed reception as he returned to the birdcage, and later his owner, Mr A. Winders, and trainer, F. Shaw, were asked for an explanation of the horse's reversal of its first day form. The explanation that the trainer was at a loss to account for the changed form and that the connexions proved that they bad supported the horse confidently on the first day, was accepted.
