AIRCRAFT RESCUE CALLED OFF

GENEVA. November 7. After the death of the leading guide, Rene Payot, in an avalanche yesterday, all efforts to reach the Indian airliner which crashed on Mount Blanc with 48 on board, have been called off indefinitely. Announcing this to-day. ,the Alpine Command’ Post at Chamonix said: “We shall not continue to jeopardise human lives when we are completely satisfied that there are no survivors of the wreck.’’

Two Killed and 13 Hart.—Two men were killed and 13 injured, three seriously, when a lorry and car collided head-on near Gunnedah early to-day. The lorry immediately burst into flames and three men lying unconscious in the cabin were pulled clear by a farmer who extinguished their burning clothes. A former nursing sister ran two miles from her home to care for the injured.—Sydney, November 8.
