AMERICAN USE OF FRENCH PORTS
Bordeaux, La Pallice For Arms Bases
(Rec. 9 p.m.) PARIS, Nov. 8. The Bay of Biscay ports of Bordeaux and La Pallice are to become supply bases for American arms and equipment for the defence of Western Europe. Agreement on the use of the ports was reached in Paris on November 4 between representatives of the French and United States Governments. About 2000 American troops will be stationed in the Bordeaux area and at depots on the supply lines between the Atlantic coast and Germany. There is no question of France having granted the United States extra territorial rights. The agreement is for the American forces to use the existing French facilities. The idea is to ensure supplies to the American forces in Germany in the event of a sudden attack. The present supply bases in Western Germany are regarded as vulnerable. Bordeaux and La Pallice were used for supplying the American forces during the war.
