CROQUET PLAYERS ENTERTAINED
To honour the English croquet team to play New Zealand for the MacRobertson Shield an enjoyable luncheon party was given by the New Zealand Croquet Council in Wellington on Monday. The president (Mr W. H. Kirk) and Mrs Kirk welcomed the visitors, each of whom was presented with a black leather bound annual inscribed with the player's name in silver.
Among those who were present at the gathering were Mr Humphrey Hicks, Mrs Kingsford, Mr John Solomon, Mrs Ozanne (England), the honorary secretary of the New Zealand Croquet Council (Mrs Austin), the treasurer (Mrs Donovan, of Geraldine), the editor of the Gazette (Mrs E. McKenzie), the president of the Wellington Association (Mrs Savage), the secretary of the Wellington association (Mrs Caldow), the referee for the tests (Mrs C. Bryan), Miss M. Claughton, Messrs A. Heenan, C. Bryan, and members of the New Zealand team.
Two other members of the English team, Messrs Ward-Pettey and Hamil-ton-Millar, who will arrive in Auckland by air before the first test on November 27, will be welcomed there by officers of the New Zealand Croquet Council.
