COMMUNISM AND WORKERS

WARNING GIVEN BY MR ATTLEE

LONDON, September 5. “For all the talk about workers, and for all the sham peace propaganda. Communism to-day is essentially a conspiracy against the liberty of the common people,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Attlee) when he addressed the Trades Union Congress Conference at Brighton to-day. “I do not for a moment think it can succeed,- but its activities demand constant watchfulness and a high measure of devotion trom all who believe in democracy and liberty. “Russian Communism perverts whatever it touches. The United Nations has been stultified by being used as a platform for Communist propaganda. The totalitarian State admits no will but that of its rulers. Even science, art literature, and music, that should be free, are regimented and controlled bv bureaucracy.

In the countries still free from Communist control the adherents of that creed enter only to disrupt. They are not out to serve the interests of members, but of the external forces to which they give allegiance. They are adepts at playing on the generous emotions of the workers.”
