ADMIRALS OF THE FLEET
appointment rules REVISED (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, June 20. New rules for promotion to the British rank of Admiral of the Fleet are announced. The existing rules, governed by ap Order-in-Council dated February 6, 1940, providing that three, and not more than three, of the holders of this rank shall be of less than five years’ seniority in the rank, have proved unsatisfactory, in that they do not provide for an even flow of promotions. His Majesty the King has therefore approved a revision of the rules to provide that one promotion shall normally be made at regular intervals of 18 months, and that vacancies arising from death will not be filled. The first promotion under the revised rules will be made on April 22 1952, and any vacancy occurring through the death of an Admiral of the Fleet of under five years’ seniority before that date will not be filled, the list remaining underborne until the next fixed date for promotion becomes due.
The date of promotion may be varied as special circumstances require, provided that the interval since the last promotion is not less than 18 months.
