DISPUTE ON WYE VALLEY
SETTLEMENT EXPECTED
TO-DAY (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 30. Mr K. H. Rhaman, the Trade Commissioner for Pakistan in Australia and New Zealand, who arrived at Dunedin last evening in an attempt to settle the dispute involving the Pakistani crew of the freighter Wye Valley* said this morning he was very optimistic and hoped to effect a solution soon.
To-day was fully occupied with the hearing of claims from the crew, but he thought that to-morrow an amicable agreement, acceptable to both the owners and the crew, could be reached. The Wye Valley received its fifth master within a fortnight to-day when Captain F. R. Lang arrived in Dunedin. Captain Lang joined Mr Rhaman and the owners’ agents this morning to hear details of the dispute.
