BIRDS’ CHORUS
Sir,—Reading “Songster’s” letter in “The Press” this morning, it might interest some folks to know that for the last week or two blackbirds and other birds have been singing and whistling as though spring were already here and that just a few moments ago some sparrows were showing all the activities of the first preparations for nest building. I might also add that we have fantails coming around, and a week or two ago a shining cuckoc.. One of our kowhai trees has also been showing flowers during the last month. It surely makes one feel as Robert Browning writes in his poem, * f Pippa Passes”: The year’s at the Spring. And day’s at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hill-side’s dew-pearled; The lark's on the wing; The snail’s on the thorn; God’s in His heaven— All’s right with the world. Yours, etc., NATURE’S FRIEND. May 26. 1950.
