Proceedings for divorce in New Zealand under the War Marriages Act. can be begun at any time not later thsui five years after June 1. 195(1. The date and period are fixed by the Matrimonial Causes (War Marriages; Order, published with the Gazette last night. The same period has been fixed in Britain by a similar regulation. , .. The War Marriages Act. passed three vears ago, extended the jurisdiction m the Supreme Court enabling war brides to petition for divorce in New Zealand, although they had lost their New Zealand domicile by reason ot their marriage to persons living outside the Dominion. The act also provided for recognition of certain American decrees dissolving marriages celebrated between Sentcmber 3. 1939. and June 1. 1950. and. in the case of certain marriages celebrated during that period, reduced from throe years m one year the period for desertion or separation required as a ground tor divorce in New Zealand.
