MONDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner. S.M.)

GUILTY ON THREE CHARGES John Arthur Crawford, aged 59, a cook, pleaded guilty to charges that on February 4 he was found drunk in Lincoln road, having been once previously convicted of a similar offence within the last six months; that he procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order; and that he used obscene language in a public place. Senior-Sergeant J J. Kearns said that the accused called at the Addington police station to make a complaint. He was drunk and was told to return when he was sober. He went out on to the street and used the language stated.

Crawford said he had no excuse to make. He did not remember what had happened. It was only when he came to town with a cheque, met old associates, and. lost all his money that he got into these problems. The Magistrate said these were Crawford’s ninetieth, ninety-first, and ninetysecond convictions and warned him not to appear before the Court again on any charge connected with drunkenness or he would bb sent to Roto Roa Island. On the first charge Crawford was fined £2, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment; on the second he was fined £2; and on the third he was sentenced ,to seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour.
