BUILDING MATERIALS IN SHORT SUPPLY

SOUTHLAND DIFFICULTIES (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, February 6. Serious shortages of cement, nails, and bolts at present face Southland builders, who in the near future are liable to find bricks similarly hard to obtain. This information was given this evening at a meeting of the Southland Building Industry Council. The meeting expressed concern at the allocations of these goods to Southland. Builders’ most urgent need is cement, and it was decided that immediate steps to obtain a larger allocation should be taken. Messrs L. Ayres and A. F. Webb were appointed to approach the local building controller (Mr Jackson) and the management of the Milburn Cement Company and to investigate Southland’s present and future allocation.
