POST OFFICE AT HEATHCOTE

SITE ACQUIRED A site at the corner of Marsden and Rollin streets has been acquired for Eost office purposes. This advice has een given by the Pos,tmaster-General (Mr W. J. Broadfoot) to Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P., in reply to representations by Mr McCombs for the amalgamation of the post and telephone offices at Heathcote valley and the provision of money-order ' and savingsbank facilities. “As previously advised, it was proposed to erect a temporary building on the site if one could be obtained, but it is regretted that because of the non-availability of surplus Army buildings it has not been possible to provide a temporary building in the manner proposed,” Mr Broadioot said m a letter to Mr McCombs.

On account of present conditions in the building industry and the lyge accumulation of more urgent works required by my department, it will not be possible to erect a structure in new materials at Heathcote valley for some considerable time. You are assured, however, that the erection of a departmental building will be put in hand as soon as possible, having regard to the relative urgency of the work,” Mr Broadfoot added.
