DEANS’ COTTAGE
RESTORATION FOR CENTENNIAL
The little cottage built by John and William Deans more than 100 years ago at Riccarton is being restored for the Canterbury centennial celebrations by the Christchurch Rotary Club. In 1947 the building was moved from its original site to the grounds of Ric - carton House, and it is now vested in the Riccarton Bush Trust Board. With three small rooms on the ground floor and two above, the cottage has’ stood the test of time remarkably well; But such items as a new chimney and the repair of vandals* damage will be required. Some of the original structure has been shielded with corrugated iron for protection. Period furniture is being collected by the Deans family and the Rotary Club for placing in the cottage next year.
