TAX EVASION IN BRITAIN

GOVERNMENT DRIVE TO COLLECT MONEY

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, November 6. The “Sunday Dispatch” reports that the Government will soon begin a drive to recover unpaid taxes from the war and post-war years estimated to be at least £100,000.000 and possibly £500.000,000. Inland Revenue officials will interview thousands of people who deliberately rendered inaccurate income tax returns during the last 10 years and ask them to explain discrepancies. The people range from leading businessmen to small tax dodgers. Some will probably go to prison, and many will have to pay penalties of up to three times the amount of the evasion.
