ECONOMIC TALKS SOUGHT

FRANCE, ITALY, AND BENELUX

CLOSER CO OPERATION PROPOSED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, November 4. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press says that the French Finance Minister (Mr Maurice Petsche) has called on th* Cabinet members directing economic affairs in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg to meet him within a week to discuss closer co-operation among the five countries. This is a step toward the creation of “Fritalux”—a French project to make the currencies of this group freely exchangeable. France and Italy are already negotiating a customs union and the three Benelux countries are working on a long-term project to fuse their economies entirely.
