DEFENCE AGAINST ATOMIC BOMB
CLAIMS FOR GUIDED MISSILES DEVICE SAID TO BE NEARLY READY . .LONDON, November 4. Guided missiles which could be used for intercepting atomic bombers are in an advanced stage of development, according to the latest Royal Air Force quarterly journal published under the direction of an Air Ministry committee. The rocket-propelled missile would climb much faster than any piloted fighter, and when it reached a point where its radar eye picked up the enemy it would free itself from ground control and an electronic brain would start working. The missile would intercept the bomber, exploding itself and destroying the bomber at the point of interception. The journal said: “This missile is not an imaginary device. It is near the final stage or development.”
