ATOM EXPLOSION IN RUSSIA
ACCOUNT IN GERMAN NEWSPAPER BLASTING OF CHANNEL FOR RIVERS ( Ree. 7-5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 5. Reuter s Berlin correspondent quotes the Soviet-licensed “Nachtexnress” as saying that the Soviet Union is using atomic-energy to blast a channel between two mountain ranges to change 4w ° Siberian rivers The “Nachtexpress” adds: “The world now has the explanation for the Soviet declaration on September 25 about 1 an atomic explosion.” Reuter’s correspondent says that the newspaper gives no source for its report, but hitherto no Soviet-licensed newspaper in Germany has carried a story from the Soviet Union that has not been from official Russian sources. The newspaper adds: “A great plan which proposes to reverse the flow of tne Ob and Yenesei rivers foresees the blasting of a path through the Ural and Kazak Mountains by means of atomic energy The purpose of the plan is to water the dry area between the Aral ?nnnnSinn P 1 . Seas - . this means 30,000,000 hectares of extra land could be cultivated and 82.000,000,000 kilowatt hours of electricity be produced.”
