TRANSTASMAN RACE AUCKLAND YACHT ENTERED (Neiv Zealand Press Association.) AUCKLAND. October 15. The 42ft Auckland ketch Lady Anne, owned by Mr John Harvey, of New Lynn, has entered for the 1950 Tasman yacht race. The secretary of (he Royal Akarana Yacht Club (Mr W. A. Ure) said to-day that the race, if held, would start from Auckland, probably on January 21. There will be no race unless there are five starters. No other entries have been received, and it is certain that neither the Trans-Tasman Cup holder, Peer Gynt, nor one of last year’s entrants, Miranda, will start. The Lady Anne, which was launched in 1942, is gaff-rigged, with a water-line length of 36ft 9in, beam of 12ft 6in, and draught of 7ft. Her displacement is 24 tons and her working sail area slightly more than 1000 sq. ft. SEASON OPENED BY MOUNT PLEASANT CLUB Boats from the Waimakariri, Canterbury, Christchurch. Pleasant Point, and Akaroa Yacht Clubs competed in the Mount Pleasant Boating Club’s opening day race on Saturday
Speakers at the opening were the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs), the president of the Canterbury Sailing Association (Mr E. E. Coombes), the president of the Mount Pleasant Club (Mr T. G. H. Buxton), the club commodore (Mr M. Willyams), and the following representatives of other clubs. Messrs R. Beveridge (Christchurch). D. Crozier (Waimakariri), S. Rich (Charteris Bay), G. Brasell (Canterbury), and J. Knight (Pleasant Point).
This season the club has 13 Takapunas, five P class boats, four Idle-alongs, and ! -bree Silver Fern class boats. The opening clay race, in which 37 boats started, resulted as follows:—Frantic (P.
