FORBURY PARK CLUB

PROSPECTS FOR TOMORROW

Form shown on the first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring meeting last Saturday should provide a good guide for the concluding day of the meeting tomorrow. The prospects of On Approval, which won the main event at the meeting last week, dominate discussions on the £l2OO President’s Handicap, which has attracted a small field of nine pacers. Whipster and Duncraig, which finished second and third in the King George Handicap, were withdrawn from the President’s Handicap. With them out of the way, On Approval may not be extended to win from the 24 yards mark. • Newcomers at the meeting include Ace of Diamonds and Attack. A brilliant, performer over all distances, Attack is handicapped to give away starts of up to 96 yards, but this may not prevent him from winning. Of the others, Prince Hall, which finished fourth in the King George Handicap last week, and Premier Royal, which won the Henry Mace Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on September 24. appeal as the most likely to fight out the finish with On Approval and Attack.

The Sprinters Positive and Baby Grand, which finished second and third to Victory Globe in the Flying Handicap last week, may dispute favouritism in the Farewell Handicap, the main event for sprinters. Positive was not favoured by the luck in the running last week. An aged son of Quite Sure and Sun Deoch, Positive may win the first prize of £460 for the Washdyke trainer. P. P. Gallagher, whose team is racing well at present.

Besides Baby Grand and Positive, the horses on scratch in the Farewell Handicap include On Approval. Sand Piper, and Black Machine, which all have some good form to their credit. On Approval, which is the likely favourite for the President’s Handicap, should prove hard to beat if he is reserved for this race.

The Trotters Ripcord, the winner of the second division of the Drayton Trot at the Methven Trotting Club s meeting on October 1, appeared to have a lot in reserve when 2 e ,° eat Dictati °n by a length in the Bayheld Handicap on Saturday. Ripcord has been penalised 36 yards for his win, but this should not prevent him from winning the Tahuna Handicap for H. J. Hewson. who trains him at Kaikoura. Most opposition to Ripcord may come from Dictation which was handicapped by getting his tongue over the bit in the Bayfield Handicap, and from Lochinvar, which finished third after breaking and pacing in the early stages of the Bayfield Handicap.

A double-gaited horse. Lochinvar, which is trained at Pleasant Point by D. Of the others. Mystery Dillon. Cottes--IOC’ and Lucky Fellow appear as the most likely to divide the minor prize money. H y Lucky Jack from Reydon, Lucky Fellow showed his best form last season | or L. L. Abernethy, who also has Aberliall engaged at the meeting, when he won the Nightcaps Handicap from Roseland Hall at the Wairio Trotting Club's meeting on December ’4.

Although she had no chance with Peggy dale, Nebula, which finished second to Perpetua in fast time in the Seaview Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Clubs meeting on September 24, gave a sterling performance to finish second, in the Southland Handicap last week. On the strength of that form. Nebula will probably be sent out favourite for the Domain Handicap. On the form shown last week. Grey Streak, Direct Power, and Peggydale should prove the hardest for Nebula to beat. One of the most consistent mares in training. Peggydale, which has recorded a win and five seconds in her last seven starts, is handicapped to give away starts of up to 36 yards. If H. I. Herbert can manoeuvre her clear of trouble in the early stages, Peggydale should take part in the finish.

Air Mail, which has raced well for a second to Awadalc in the Pacific Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club's meeting on September 24, and second to Sandy Logan in the Peninsula Handicap at Forbury Park last week, may top off her record with a win in the Royal Handicap. Other likely types in the Royal Handicap include Great Wonder, which finished third after appearing to be unlucky at a critical stage of the Peninsula Handicap; •Melton, which has been placed in his last

two races: and Allanah, which lost her chance when she broke at the start of the Peninsula Handicap. If she accelerates quickly, Allanah. which won at her first three starts for the season, may prove the hardest for Air Mail to beat.

Sandy Logan gave one of the best displays on the first day of the meeting when, after being seventh into the straight, he finished fast to win the Peninsula Handicap. A winner at his last two starts, Sandy Logan, which is bracketed with another good performer in Foreign Lady, may be sent out favourite for the Victory Handicap, which has attracted a strong field, including Awadale. Systematic, Fabric Silk, and Wedding Ring. The last three named finished second, third, and fourth in the Dominion Handicap last Saturday. On that form they should be in the picture with Sandy Logan and Foreign Lady at the finish of the Victory Handicap. * Handy-sized fields are carded throughout the programme, and the racing should, be full of interest. Horses in form include:— 11 a.m.—Tahuna Handicap: Ripcord, Dictation, Lochinvar. 11.45 a.m.—St. Kilda Handicap: Nature Girl. Mystery Dillon, Cottesloe. 12.35 p.m.—Dunedin Handicap: Nebula, Peggydale, Desert Flight. 1.25 p.m.—President's Handicap: On Approval, Attack. Premier Royal. 2.10 p.m.—Churchill Handicap: Bessie Grattan, Lady Inchcape, Conceit. 3 p.m.—Royal Handicap: Air Mail, Allanah, Great Wonder. 3.50 p.m.—Victory Handicap: Sandy Logan-Foreign Lady bracket. Systematic, Fabric Silk. 4.40 p.m.—Farewell Handicap: Positive, On Approval, Baby Grand. Improving After setting the pace for most of the way. Grey Streak, which appears to be improving with each race, finished third in the Southland Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday. A son of Van Derby and Blue Rose, Grey Streak may soon return to the winning list for M. W. Dickie, who is training him at Springston. By Übakim Rayon, the runner-up to Sailor’s Globe tn the second division of the Aramoho Handicap on the first day of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, may leave the maiden classes with a win in the Gonville Handicap on the concluding day of the meeting this week. A four-year-old Übakim mare. Rayon is out of Myrtle Oro. which left other winners in Our Jackie and Overdraft. A winner herself, Myrtle Oro is by Rey de Oro from Myrtlene, by Peter Moko from. Cluster, by Ghoai.
